Stay-at-home mom reignites her career after she finds out her husband has a secret savings account with $45,000: 'I need to safeguard myself if he is hiding money from me'

Stay-at-home moms don't get enough credit. Unless forced, many moms choose to be with their babies, and that's not only a privilege but a huge sacrifice for their careers. Putting their jobs on hold for years at a time can jeopardize their futures, but instead, they choose to forge lasting bonds that their offspring will never forget. On one hand, you have financial security, and on the other, a repertoire of nurturing memories that will last a lifetime. The choice is obvious… 

A woman was forced to make a crucial decision about her and her baby's future. After finding out her husband was siphoning off thousands in cash every month into a secret bank account, suddenly their financial trust was broken, and she no longer felt secure in her stay-at-home mom sacrifice. To protect her child and prioritize her career, she decided to go back to work. 

Fighting the gap on your resume is a tough choice that many moms must face, but this woman decided that it was more worth it to protect her baby's future than to rely on a man with a secret savings account of "his own" money after they'd decided to pool funds.

  • OP Primary-Strength-829 He said he didnt know. That he just wanted something that was "only his" in case anything went wrong. I asked him if he was willing to put it in the joint account so we could make it fairly distributed between us so I have my own, as well as him having his own, and he said he "didnt think he was comfortable with that". So, who knows. No money has been taken out of the account. He is just stashing a bunch of money away and still using our joint account, which has all of my

  • NobodybutmyshadowRed NTA - It appears to me that he has already gone back on your agreement by deceiving you about his finances. If he wanted something that was his, you could have agreed to have separate personal accounts as well as joint accounts that fund your regular expenses. Why didn't it occur to him that you might want something that was just yours. I wouldn't trust him either. With that kind of money, if he doesn't want your child in daycare, perhaps he should pay out of his funds that

  • The RoadkillRapunzel NTA. He doesn't get to have secret financial security set up in case you split up while preventing you from doing the same. He can either dump that 45K into the shared account and give you access to make sure that doesn't happen again, or he gets to realize that HE is the reason his baby is in day care.
